My First Binder

Why "firsts" matter

A first chest binder is rarely just a piece of clothing — it's often the first time gender identity and physical appearance start to feel aligned. That's why we asked our ambassadors to share what that moment was like for them: the nerves beforehand, the adjustment period, and the relief of finally seeing themselves reflected back in the mirror.

If you're getting ready for your own first binder, a few things can make the experience smoother. Take your measurements carefully before ordering — a binder that's too tight can be uncomfortable and unsafe, while one that's too loose won't give the flattening effect you're after. Give yourself time on the first wear; some binders take a bit of practice to get into. And go easy on yourself if it doesn't feel perfect straight away — for most people, the first time is also the most emotional, nerves included.

For sizing guidance before you buy, see our Chest Binder Size Guide, and for safety information on how long to wear a binder and how to care for it, check our chest binding safety guide.
