Why We Asked
So much of the conversation about trans experience focuses on difficulty — on discrimination, medical barriers, legal battles, and the effort required to simply exist. All of that is real. But it is not the whole picture, and it is not what drives most trans people through their days.
Trans joy is real too. It is the feeling of putting on a binder for the first time and seeing yourself clearly in the mirror. It is choosing your own name and hearing someone use it. It is finding community with people who do not need you to explain yourself. It is the quiet, daily accumulation of moments where your body and your life feel like yours.
We asked our community what trans joy means to them because we believe those stories deserve space — not as a counterpoint to struggle, but as a true account of what trans life actually looks like. The responses we received were generous, specific, and moving. We are grateful to everyone who shared.
