Chest Binder Size Guide: How to Measure and Choose the Perfect Fit

Getting the right fit for your chest binder is crucial for both safety and comfort. At Transform, we design and test our binders specifically for Australian bodies, so proper measuring using our method is essential for the best results.

Why Proper Sizing Matters

A well-fitted chest binder should provide effective compression while allowing you to breathe freely and move comfortably. Our chest binders don't have rigid panels like many other binders, which means they should be easy to put on over your head (except for our Adjustable Crop which has side openings). If it's too difficult to put on over your head, you need to go up a size.

Safety first: A binder that's too small can restrict breathing and cause serious health issues. The right size ensures comfort, effective binding, and longevity of your binder.

How to Measure

For the most accurate measurements, measure without clothing or over minimal layers. Take each measurement twice to ensure accuracy.

Transform's 4-Step Measuring Method

1. Upper Chest With your arms down, breathe normally and tuck the measuring tape as high as you can under the arms.

2. Mid or Full Chest Measure the widest or fullest part of your chest tissue, not pulling the tissue tight.

3. Under Chest Measure right under the chest tissue (think of where a bra strap would sit). You may need to lift chest tissue to get this measurement.

4. Waist Bend like a teapot and feel your lowest rib. Stand upright and measure around here.

Pro Tips

  • Breathe normally while measuring
  • Stand naturally with relaxed shoulders
  • Get help if needed to ensure the tape stays level
  • Use our bra size conversion chart as a reference if you don't have a measuring tape

Choosing Your Size

Our sizing may not correspond to other binder brands you've worn - always use our specific measuring guide and size chart.

For Our Adjustable Crop Binders: If you're between sizes, choose the larger size as our adjustable crops are designed to fit snugly.

For Other Styles: If between sizes, generally choose the smaller size.

Testing Your Fit

Movement Test

When trying on your binder, move your arms in all directions. You shouldn't experience restricted movement, chafing, or rubbing.

Breathing Check

You should be able to breathe freely - this is a key indicator of proper fit. Our binders don't contain rigid panels, so breathing should feel natural.

Comfort Check

After 30 minutes of wear, check for:

  • No chafing or persistent red marks
  • Comfortable shoulder position
  • No numbness or tingling
